‘Govt laid emphasis on agriculture sector’

GUWAHATI, April 3: “The Assam Government had always laid emphasis on the development of the agriculture sector. This was stated by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while inaugurating the general body meeting of the National Council of State Agricultural Marketing Boards (COSAMB) at Rehabari in Guwahati today.
“80 per cent of the State’s population are involved in agriculture. Hence, the development of the State depends on the development of the farmers as well as the people, whose livelihoods depend on agriculture,” Gogoi said. In view of this, the Government has always laid emphasis on augmenting the agricultural output of the State and thereby increasing the earning of the farmers.
In this, direction, the Government had launched many new schemes for the welfare of the farmers with the assistance of the Central Government, he added. Besides, the Chief Minister also lauded the Board’s initiate in providing agricultural inputs and infrastructure required for better production.
State Agriculture Minister Prarnile Ram Brahma spoke about the various schemes launched by the Government for the welfare of the farmers of Assam. Chairman National Council of the State Agricultural Marketing Boards (COSAMB) Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, Assam SAMB Chairman Debeswar Bora and Chattisgarh Agriculture Minister Megharam Singh Sahu attended the meet.
